I guess this isn't always true, but it seems like after the fresh new game feeling wears off, the remaining 75% of the game is mainly treated as a chore
that I have to get through to add another notch to my completed game list and give me the chance to play the next fresh new game. Even in games that I
supposedly love, I get frustrated if I can't clear the final area fast enough because making repeated attempts is delaying or denying my closure and chance
to move on. There are moments of pleasure but I think way too much of it feels like work.
Maybe it's a case of there just being too many games. With easy rentals and purchases, and countless things to download, you could have any game you could imagine in (at the most) a few days. When good new games were much harder to come by, it was easier and neccessary to savor the experience, replay multiple times, and play the part of the completionist. I remember when I played Suikoden II about three times consecutively and got all 108 characters. Doing something like that now is inconceivable to me. I'm never going to play Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect, Super Paper Mario, Fable, or any of the others again for the rest of my life, I have almost no doubt about that.
