I think that's about as old as this (the desk PC) computer is. Since I think we got it after our first apartment was in the fire, our PC at the time was
ruined, and we needed a new one.
It seems to me like computers now don't become obsolete as quickly as they used to. I'd have a hard time going back to, say, a Windows 98 computer now. |

Yeah, except for new games, which probably aren't worth it, there isn't really any reason I can think of to get a new computer.
Well, okay, I might like a built in Blu Ray player but that gets complicated because then I'd need a better monitor, too. I'd like to go at least another year with this machine, maybe even more. Saving money is good. |

I think if I ever get another laptop, I'd probably get a cheap one (like what's ~$300 today) rather than another $1000+ model like my current one.

I spent a lot on this computer a few years ago because I had no financial discipline and was constantly trying to buy happiness (it worked, BTW).
But then maybe if you're going to use a computer for more than three years, it could be worth spending a little extra on horsepower. If I had bought a budget PC in 2006, there might be things I would now find myself unable to do properly. I can even still play some new games on this computer if they're of a less hardcore, graphics intensive nature. I wonder if Microsoft is planning on cutting off Vista support for security updates and the like faster than with previous releases. That might be incentive to get a new system, since Windows 7 is a fairly big expense. |
